Holidays don’t come cheap, but if you’re wanting to save some money on your summer break this year, experts from TravelSupermarket have discovered the cheapest destinations to fly to from airports across the UK. Across the board, beautiful beach destinations with fantastic summer sunshine come out on top.
Some of the cheapest holiday destinations are from London airports, where the experts found that you could expect to pay less than £500 for a week-long getaway.
If you’re hoping to jet off from one of London’s airports, there is plenty of choice. Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton are all major hubs for package holiday operators, and as such you can source some of the cheapest deals from London flight hubs.
“The Costa Dorada takes the crown for the cheapest summer holiday destination from London, averaging £470pp for a week-long getaway on its sun-soaked shores,” said the Travel Supermarket report. “Tourists keen on Spain can also pick up bargains in the Costa Brava and the Costa Blanca.”
But if Spain doesn’t take your fancy, Bulgaria’s Bourgas region was also named as the “second cheapest place to visit from London”.
Travel Supermarket’s expert team said: “Home to family-friendly resorts such as Sunny Beach and Varna that frequently feature as best-value destinations in the Post Office’s Holiday Money Report, it’s a top spot for a cheap and cheerful seaside stay.
“Further afield, look to Dalaman in Turkey for a sun, sand and sea holiday that won’t blow the budget.”
Holidaymakers jetting off from Manchester are urged to explore Turkey’s turquoise coast, home to Antalya’s golden, sandy beaches and action-packed resorts.
“The average cost for a seven-night holiday comes in at £531pp,” said Travel Supermarket. “Dalaman also makes the line-up in fourth place, averaging £568pp.”
However, Spanish island favourites also made it into the ranking, with Tenerife and Majorca taking the second and third spots.
“Both tick all the summer holiday boxes boasting all-inclusive hotels, endless activities and sunshine without the price tag,” said Travel Supermarket.
Mancunians with a soft spot for the Greek islands are in luck because Crete rounds up the pack as the fifth cheapest holiday destination from Manchester Airport.”
Liverpool airport offers some excellent offers for summer holidays to Majorca, with
seven-night getaways averaging an enticingly low £473pp – that’s around £71pp cheaper than Manchester.
“Spain continues to dominate the rest of the line-up, with Tenerife, the Costa del Sol, the Costa Blanca and Lanzarote completing the top five cheapest places to fly to from Liverpool this summer,” said Travel Supermarket.
Once again, Majorca was named as the most purse-friendly escape for those departing on a package holiday from Newcastle Airport.
The research claims that prices were found to be over £100 cheaper than the other ranking destinations.
“Book a week’s summer holiday to Majorca and travellers can expect to pay an average of £504pp compared to second place, Antalya (£607pp), and its Spanish sisters, Tenerife (£627pp) and the Costa Blanca (£637pp),” said Travel Supermarket.
Alternatively, cast your sights towards the Greek island of Crete with its sparkling turquoise seas and laidback atmosphere, which also gives Majorca a run for its money.
Travellers from Leeds Airport will also find that Majorca tops the cheap list. “Prices for a package holiday here sit in the same ballpark as its northern neighbours, averaging £490pp for a seven-night break – that’s £17 more than Liverpool, but £41 cheaper than Manchester,” said Travel Supermarket.
The Costa del Sol sits closely behind in the second spot, with affordable options luring holidaymakers to its lively resorts and sun-baked beaches.
“Move to the third and fourth cheapest destinations and fliers can pick up holidays in the Costa Blanca and Tenerife for around the £600pp mark,” said Tripadvisor.
Similar in price and adding to the mix, the Algarve takes fifth place. The experts recommend looking at the popular resorts of Albufeira and Lagos for the cheapest prices.
Holidaymakers flying from Edinburgh will find that Spain and Turkey are their best options for a cheap summer holiday this year.
“Tenerife’s all-inclusive resorts and adventure activities have long been luring holidaymakers, and its low prices are sure to be a hit with sun-seeking Scots this year, averaging £592pp for a week’s getaway,” said the Travel Supermarket experts.
Lanzarote ranked as the second cheapest destination to fly to from Edinburgh, followed by Majorca in third spot. The experts also recommended Dalaman and Antalya in Turkey.
Once again, the Mediterranean rules for low-cost holidays when flying from Birmingham. The experts say you can expect holidays in the Mediterranean hovering around the £600pp mark.
“Majorca wins again as the cheapest summer holiday destination, almost £40pp cheaper to fly to from Birmingham than Edinburgh,” said Travel Supermarket. “Antalya is a close second, with TravelSupermarket data revealing that Birmingham is the second cheapest airport overall to fly to Antalya this summer after Manchester.”
Other budget-friendly destinations to consider are Tenerife and Crete, both of which offer lovely summer weather and plenty of accommodation options to suit all price points.
“Family-favourite Corfu completes the top five,” added the report. “Another Greek island paradise, it comes in at around £655pp for a seven-night package holiday.”
