Nestled in southern Poland, close to the border of the Czech Republic, is the famous city of Krakow. The Polish city is known for its beautiful old town and well-preserved medieval core, with an abundance of stunning buildings.
It’s also a city where you can happen upon a rather well-priced pint of local beer.
According to a new study by Travel Supermarket, there’s even more good news in store for those hoping to visit Krakow in the coming months. According to a data analysis as part of the brand’s Cheap Holiday Index, the city is the cheapest city break destination for package holidays this summer.
Travel Supermarket’s team of experts gathered data on the cost of a two-night package deal, including flights, hotel, one dinner, and one ticket attraction.
They found that Krakow is leading the charge when it comes to budget-friendly trips, with the average cost of a package city break coming in at just £283 per person.
Although Krakow is one of the most expensive cities in Poland, when compared with the cost of cities across Europe, it fares pretty well. Compared to neighbouring European cities Krakow is generally cheaper than London, Prague and Berlin.
Discover Kraków explained that one of the best examples of this is the price of a pint of local beer in the city.
“The average price of a beer in the market square is around 15 PLN or €3.50 (£2.95), this is about 30 percent of the cost of a beer in London which averages at about €8 (£6.73),” said Discover Krakow.
If you journey beyond the market square, you’re likely to find an even cheaper pint. According to Krawl Through Krakow: “The average price for a pint of domestic beer in Krakow is around 8 PLN (approximately £1.57).”
Given the stunning architecture, there is plenty to discover in Krakow simply by walking around the city.
However, some of the must-see sites in the city include St Mary’s Basilica, Rynek Glowny Central Square and the 13th-century merchants’ town of Stare Miasto.
Many visitors choose to take a day trip to Auschwitz to learn more about the history and pay their respects. Other popular day trips from the city include Krakow to Zakopane for a day spent at the thermal baths.
