If you’ve ever fantasised about relocating to the countryside, you’ll know that picturesque settings often come with a hefty price tag.
However, recent research from AB Drylining has unveiled some of the most budget-friendly streets for home purchases in delightful towns and villages.
From quaint lanes to historic homes, there are affordable options for those keen to invest in stunning locations. In areas where average house prices can soar to £406,751, finding both affordability and charm might seem like a tall order.
Yet, the study reveals hidden treasures in streets where properties have recently been sold for less than £100,000, making the dream of quintessential British living much more achievable.
One such location is the enchanting market town of Ludlow, nestled on the Welsh border in Shropshire.
A haven for history buffs, food enthusiasts, and nature lovers, the 11th-century Ludlow Castle sits at the heart of the town, boasting Norman, Medieval, and Tudor architecture.
As per the town’s visitor website, the castle was instrumental in Ludlow’s development and has witnessed key events in British history.
Most notably, it once housed the Prince of Wales and his brother in 1473 before their tragic and mysterious demise at the Tower of London. Today, visitors can savour breathtaking views of Shropshire’s countryside and the Welsh Marches from this magnificent historical site, reports The Mirror.
Ludlow, renowned as a gastronome’s delight with its array of fantastic eateries and the annual Ludlow Food and Drink Festival, is also a haven for property bargain hunters.
Despite its rich history and quintessential British countryside charm, properties in Ludlow can still be acquired for less than £100k.
Data from AB Drylining reveals that homes on Rocks Green Crescent have been sold for approximately £80,750, while those on Old Street and Gravel Hill have fetched prices of £87,264 and £88,540 respectively. Sandpits Avenue and New Street also offer affordable options, with prices at £91,500 and £91,813.
Surrounded by stunning landscapes, Ludlow is perfect for cycling, walking, and nature enthusiasts. The nearby Mortimer Forest, an ancient Saxon hunting forest, offers numerous trails and footpaths.
The River Teme, located in the Welsh Marches and designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest, is also a favourite among anglers.
Other surprisingly budget-friendly rural paradises include the Yorkshire Moor town of Ilkley and the historic streets of Ledbury in Herefordshire.
