Athletes have a new challenger brand to try out. Pentland Capital-backed Over+Above is the latest addition to the crowded sportswear market, but aims to make its mark with a “pioneering line of performance-enhancing garments”.
Its patented ProPrio collection includes men’s and women’s tights, half tights, tops, and calf sleeves. We’re told its patented system is designed to support the body during movement and tap into the body’s sixth sense; proprioception (the sense of body position, movement, and force).
Over+Above claims to be the first brand to “pioneer proprioceptive apparel, combining science and performance apparel in a way that has never been done before”.
It was born from the personal experience of a former athlete who struggled with a persistent injury. After countless physiotherapy sessions and the application of K-tape, he realised the need for a more integrated solution. This idea led to a collaboration with Dr Chris Peploe, a sports biomechanist and technologist, and the development of the Over+Above ProPrio system.
Former England cricketer Matt Prior was among the first to experience the benefits of the innovative garments. Impressed by the positive impact on his performance and recovery, Prior joined the team as CEO, “bringing his athletic insight and leadership to drive the brand forward”.
By integrating the ProPrio system into every garment, Over+Above apparel “works with the body during exercise to better synchronise the nervous and muscular systems, offering unparalleled stability, movement efficiency, and reductions in fatigue”.
Performance-enhancing benefits include: heightened proprioception and movement awareness from sensory nodes interacting with the skin at key anatomical locations; support around major muscles and joints from kinesiology-inspired skeletal structures; and improved blood flow and reduced muscle vibration due to body-mapped compression.
Prior said: “Over+Above is not just about creating athletic wear, it’s about pushing the boundaries of what athletes can achieve. Our focus on proprioception sets us apart, offering athletes a unique advantage that truly enhances their performance.”
