The house of Celine has named Liu Shishi as its latest global ambassador, the first fresh image for the brand since the arrival of new creative director, American-born Michael Rider.
A professionally trained ballet dancer, Liu is best known in China for playing the character Long Kui in the fantasy drama “Chinese Paladin 3”, a TV series which was adapted from a video game.
“I’ve been enchanted by Celine’s creations for as long as I can remember… For me, Celine embodies the essence of Parisian sophistication and utmost femininity,” said the Chinese actress in a release.
China is a vital market for Celine, where it boasts 42 boutiques, including the recently renovated 300-square-meter flagship in Hangzhou.
Liu gained international fame thanks to “Scarlet Letter”, the 2011 mega hit based on a time travel historical romance concept. While working on that TV series, she met her future husband, co-star Nicky Wu. The pair married in 2016, and three years later, Liu gave birth to a son BuBu, named after “Scarlet Letter” author Bubu Jingxin.
“Shishi Liu is a multi-talented Chinese actress renowned for captivating audiences with her grace and artistry. She is celebrated for her timeless elegance and refined versatility,” Paris-based and LVMH-owned Celine added.
A not-infrequent presence at front rows in Milan and Paris, Liu has also been an ambassador for such chic brands as Tod’s, watchmaker Omega and Qeelin, the Kering-owned Chinese jeweler.
Liu’s role at Celine will not be a solo act, since the house already boasts a small stable of global ambassador, that includes Korean actress Su Ji Bae; Korean singer V; actor Bogum Park; and singer Danielle of the group NewJeans.
