BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – University of Kentucky women’s golfer Cathryn Brown has been crowned the Southeastern Conference Golfer of the Week, it was announced by the league office Thursday.
The Wildcat is off to a sensational start to the spring season, following up her T4 finish two weeks ago at the Spartan Sun Coast Invitational with a T3 finish at the Spartan Sun Coast Invitational on Monday.
Each finish marked a new career best for the sophomore.
Brown, a native of Eddyville, Kentucky, turned in rounds of 68, 69 and 75 to assemble a 4-under-par 212 at the Spartan Sun Coast Invitational. Her 4-under-par 68 in the first round marked the second-best, 18-hole performance of her college career, while her 3-under-par 69 in the second round marked the third-best, 18-hole performance of her college career.
She led the 81-person field after 36 holes with her 68 and 69.
Through 36 rounds in her one-and-a-half years, she has never had back-to-back rounds in the 60s until now. In fact, she only has had three rounds in the 60s total, including her career-best 66 (-6) hauled in last fall.
She collected 13 birdies across the 54 holes at the Spartan Sun Coast Invitational, which tied for the second most among players in the field.
Kentucky has produced a SEC Freshman Golfer of the Week (Karlie Campbell) or a SEC Golfer of the Week (Cathryn Brown) after each of its first two events this spring.
Next for the Wildcats, they’ll take on the field at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at Long Cove Club in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, from March 3-5.
