Luxury labels are very fond of opening special locations (aside from stores) that are all about marketing the brand — as the proliferation of beach and ski resort takeovers shows.
Burberry is particularly enthusiastic about this form of marketing and its latest move is the opening of the Knight Bar at The Landmark Mandarin Oriental’s MO Bar in Hong Kong.
It hosted an event there this week with guests including brand ambassador Bright Vachirawit, Amy Lo, Baekhyun, Cecilia Choi, Fiona McLeish, Hanna Chan, Irene Kim, Kiwi Lee, Lee Sungkyoung, Mandy Tam, Will Or, Wu Kang Ren and Yoyo Cao.
The bar takeover runs until 14 July as part of the overall marketing for the new Rocking Horse bag in one of the label’s most important markets — one that seems to be recovering from its earlier slowdown.
Inside the bar, furniture and fixtures in Knight Blue feature alongside neon light installations of the label’s Equestrian Knight Design, a crowd-sourced illustration from 1901.
Guests can enjoy a traditional British dining experience, with a set menu that includes toad in the hole and fish and chips. Customised QR codes can be generated to redeem a gift from the Burberry Landmark store vending machine, including horse-shaped clips, new seasonal Burberry Check totes and rubber key charms.
The takeover also coincides with the opening of Burberry’s store in the Landmark shopping centre.
