The Kentucky Wildcats continued their impressive start to the season with a 100-72 win against Bucknell at Rupp Arena. This game showed Kentucky’s depth and balanced offense.
In the Cats’ first two games of the year, they have scored over 100 points each, with balanced scoring and many players scoring in double digits.
Many people were curious to see how Kentucky’s offense was going to operate under Mark Pope, as this was his first season at Kentucky. So far, his offense hasn’t disappointed, as he got most of his players through the transfer portal and had to build his team from scratch.
Bucknell head coach John Griffin III took notice of Pope’s team.
“Mark Pope has done an excellent job of assembling a roster of very good basketball players, very good college basketball players, and they’ve quickly, through hard work, I can only imagine, found the magic wand of unselfishness. It’s impressive,” Griffin III said during postgame interviews.
Kentucky had five players score in double digits for the Cats against Bucknell on Saturday night, with Koby Brea leading the way with 20 points, Jaxson Robinson with 14, Amari Williams with 13, Andrew Carr with 11, and Otega Oweh with 10.
It wasn’t all about the scoring either, because Williams ended up with a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds. Along with that, Kerr Kriisa came off the bench and had 12 assists, helping to set his teammates up for made shots.
The Cats’ overall performance was impressive, but now they will be gearing up for their first big opponent on Tuesday. They will face off against the Duke Blue Devils on Tuesday night at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, at 9:00 PM ET on ESPN for the State Farm Champions Classic.
