The UK Government has issued vitally important travel advice for Britons planning visits to two popular holiday destinations as millions of people prepare to jet off on summer breaks.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has highlighted significant risks in Greece and France, urging travellers to stay informed and take precautions.
In Greece, holidaymakers are advised to prepare for extreme weather conditions. Flooding and wildfires are notable threats that can escalate rapidly. Travelers are encouraged to follow ‘112 Greece’ on X for updates and ensure they are aware of local emergency procedures.
The FCDO warns of a high risk of wildfires during the summer season from April to October, describing them as “highly dangerous and unpredictable.”
Tourists are reminded that causing a wildfire, even unintentionally, is a criminal offence in Greece. The advisory recommends taking measures to avoid starting fires, such as properly extinguishing cigarettes and not leaving litter.
There is also a risk of earthquakes and tremors. Travelers should familiarise themselves with safety procedures and follow the advice of local authorities.
With the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games on the horizon, the FCDO has also issued essential travel information for France.
The Olympic Games are scheduled from July 26 until August 11, with the Paralympic Games following from August 28 until September 8.
