Benidorm transformed into an unrecognisable scene as torrential downpours inundated the popular holiday destination.
The Spanish resort, typically associated with vibrant nightlife, pubs and lively parties, has taken on a drastically different appearance, with locals describing parts of the area as resembling a “river”.
The severe flooding that has ravaged Spain in recent weeks has resulted in thousands of missing people and over 200 fatalities.
Videos have surfaced showing the streets of Benidorm awash with water, with vehicles submerged and debris scattered around. Frank, a local bar owner and TikTok personality (@frankthestagman), captured the shocking scenes, stating that the inclement weather seemed to come “out of nowhere”.
In his video, Frank says: “The river’s back, look. The bridge has flooded again. Now before you all start thinking what you shouldn’t be thinking, when we get proper bad rain here in Benidorm, this is actually quite normal.”
He continues: “This leads straight out into the sea. So, um, looks like the rain is starting to ease up a bit again now. Welcome to Benidorm. Welcome to Benidorm.
“Even the goats down there look are looking a little bit submerged. They’re not real goats, they’re better ones.”
Frank notes that the weather shifted rapidly, but acknowledges that such occurrences are not uncommon during this time of year in Benidorm, and the situation likely won’t “last long”.
A video posted by @thebenidormfanatic also highlighted the “red alert” flooding wreaking havoc in the region. The dramatic footage captures roads morphing into waterways and drains brimming over from relentless downpour.
As the camera pans towards the stormy sea, thunder and lightning make a spectacular but daunting display. The inclement weather has unmistakably escalated to dire conditions.
The clips have attracted views from hundreds, sparking a stream of comments. Numerous viewers recounted their soggy holiday mishaps, while others expressed trepidation about future trips to Benidorm following the chaotic scenes.
One comment read: “Omg, I remember September 2013. It was crazy, really scary. Have seen beach walk wiped out many times since. But now I’m really scared to book after seeing the news this week.”
Another replied: “Me and my partner were out in it. We’re back in our hotel room now.” Meanwhile, one more chimed in with: “When we left, the rain was torrential at 4pm.”
