Coming on the heels of news from Kensington Palace that they will no longer be sharing information on the Princess of Wales’s clothing, King Charles has just celebrated one of the most notable figures in British fashion.
King Charles presented Anna Wintor with the Order of the Companions of Honour for Services to Fashion at Buckingham Palace.
Wintour went with a trusted British design house, Alexander McQueen, for her grey blazer and calf-length skirt. Although she wore her beloved black sunglasses to and from the Palace, she removed her signature item to receive her honour from His Majesty.
King George V founded the Order of the Companions of Honour in June 1917; it is a Commonwealth honour given to those who have made a lasting impact in the arts, government, science, or medicine. Wintour was included on The King’s 2023 birthday honours list.
Now known as Dame Anna Wintour, Wintour has been the Editor-in-Chief of Vogue since 1988; she also has served as Condé Nast’s Global Chief Content Officer since 2020.
She is also heavily associated with the Met Gala, a major fashion event held in May in New York each year.
The King is not Wintour’s first royal fan; in 2018, Queen Elizabeth attended a London Fashion Week show with the editor.
Also honoured today were artist Dame Tracey Emin and the late DJ Annie Nightingale, whose CBE was collected by her daughter, Lucy Swanson.
