MITOMA HITS WINNER AS BRIGHTON SEAL COMEBACK VICTORY
Brighton came from behind to complete a merited 2-1 win over Chelsea in the FA Cup fourth round as Kaoru Mitoma chipped home a delightful winner early in the second half.
A Peter Osgood double gave Chelsea a 2-0 win at Brighton in the clubs’ previous FA Cup meeting in January 1973, and they made an ideal start at the Amex when goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen mishandled Cole Palmer’s cross to ship a dreadful own goal on five minutes.
But the home side, who lost 7-0 at Nottingham Forest in the Premier League last week, were quick to restore parity when Georginio Rutter rose to head Joel Veltman’s cross into the net on 12 minutes.
And Fabian Hurzeler’s men sealed their spot in the fifth round when Rutter fed Mitoma with a delightful pass for the Japanese midfielder to lift the ball over Robert Sanchez on 57 minutes.
The home side can look forward to Monday’s draw for the last 16 after ending a four-match losing streak to Chelsea, who have won only three of their past 10 matches in all competitions.
