The Kentucky Wildcats faced off with their toughest opponent to date this afternoon as they welcomed the Auburn Tigers to Lexington. The Cats just couldn’t hang with the Tigers in this one, as Auburn routed Kentucky by a final score of 94-78.
If you predicted a Kentucky upset over the Tigers today, well, you likely enjoyed the first four minutes of the game.
Everything after that… let’s just say you already saw the writing on the wall.
We really saw the big difference between the two teams: Auburn has guys that can get their own shot, and Kentucky doesn’t. Despite hanging in the game for the majority of the first half, Kentucky headed into the locker room down 15 points.
Didn’t think the first half was bad enough? Coming out of the half, the Cats turned the ball over on six straight possessions, ultimately driving the nail into the coffin of this game. Not much else to say about this one. Kentucky absolutely laid an egg in this game.
Now, the Cats will turn their attention to the final two games of the regular season with LSU up first. They need to find a way to go 2-0 this coming week.
This one is fairly easy. Without Amari Williams, this game is more of a blowout than it already was.
He finished with 13 points on 3-for-5 shooting, while also going 7-for-13 from the free throw line. He also added 14 rebounds and seven assists.
As the Cats look to make a run this postseason, it appears all things are going to run through Williams. They will, of course, need big games from Koby Brea, Lamont Butler, and Andrew Carr but will need close to perfection from their starting big.
No team has more banked in threes made against them than Kentucky.
Back to back. I mean, are you serious?

Kentucky looks completely out of sorts
Lazy passes

Five different Wildcats already with a turnover in this one.

Amari Williams is toying with Johni Broome and Dylan Cardwell. Just too strong.
— Tres Terrell (@TerrellTres) March 1, 2025
Amari Williams is essentially the only person keeping Kentucky from drowning — up to nine points and six rebounds
No one else with more than a single bucket for the Cats

This is almost unwatchable.

The officials are killing Kentucky. Crazy!

A full blown blowout may be on the horizon…
Kentucky is completely out sorts

Kentucky had 18 Turnovers and made only 4 three pointers
Honestly no other stats would really matter if those two things happen
— Matt Jones (@KySportsRadio) March 1, 2025
Well, that was a rough one. Quite simply, Auburn is a lot better. We knew that coming in and it was proven over 40 minutes.
That being said, Kentucky self-inflicted some of the early struggles.
Turnovers, layups, and defending the 3 needed to be better & COULD have been better.
