When is Great Britain vs Canada?

Great Britain will contest their quarter-final match against 2023 Billie Jean King Cup champions Canada on Sunday 17 November.

The tie will begin at 16:00 GMT and will follow a best of three match format.

Great Britain vs Canada head-to-head

The Brits convincingly lead the head-to-head against Canada 3-0. The two first met in the 1963 World Group Play-Offs, where a British team made up of Christine Janes and Ann Jones took a clean 3-0 sweep against Ann Barclay and Louise Brown.

The two nations last met in 1984 where they played their World Group Play-Off tie on the clay courts in Brazil. While Great Britain edged a 2-1 win, plenty has changed since then and with both teams possessing strength and depth, this tie is going to be a tough one to call.

Great Britain come into their tie with Canada full of confidence after brushing aside Germany 2-0 in their first round match, with straight sets wins for Katie Boulter and Emma Raducanu.

Boulter is continuing the impressive form shown in the final weeks of the Asia swing, where she reached the Hong Kong Open final and semi-finals in Tokyo. She’s currently at a career-high ranking of world No.23 off the back of her best season to date – winning two WTA titles.

Raducanu looked strong in her first match back for two months in a win against Jule Niemeier on Friday. The former US Open champion has played some of her best tennis for the Brits this season, winning all three of her matches in 2024.

Their wins meant we didn’t get to see doubles duo Heather Watson and Olivia Nicholls, or British No.3 Harriet Dart – but all three players have had great seasons themselves. Watson has been a consistent performer in both singles and doubles this year, Nicholls is British doubles No.1 for the first time and broke into the top 50 and Dart has become a main stay in the singles top 100.

They will face a tough challenge however against the reigning champions on Sunday. Raducanu’s opponent in the 2021 US Open final Leylah Fernandez played some of the best tennis of her career in this competition last year and has also enjoyed a good run of form at the end of the season.

Rebecca Marino is well known to British fans after winning the Lexus Ilkley Trophy this summer and last week won the WTA 125 in Midland. Marina Stakusic made headlines at last year’s Finals and the 19-year-old is ranked just outside the top 100 after lifting the WTA 125 in Tampico in October.

One of their biggest weapons, however, is doubles world No.3 Gabriela Dabrowski. Title winner in Nottingham and Wimbledon finalist earlier this year, Dabrowski was recently crowned WTA Finals champion with New Zealand’s Erin Routliffe.
