The vehicle rental company DiscoverCars.com has shared the world’s greatest destinations for taking an unforgettable road trip.
Whilst hardly the most common thing to do on a holiday, many tourists dream of taking to the open road to experience a new destination at their own pace and in the privacy of their own car.
According to DiscoverCars.com, the best location to take a road trip is through Hobart, the capital of Tasmania, Australia.
Compared to the largely flat and sprawling landscape of Australia, Hobart is a city built at the foot of Mount Wellington, which tourists are able to drive up for a great view of the area.
In addition, the Tasmania Grand Circle journey also takes visitors through a range of different nature reserves, national parks and beaches.
Another road trip destination that was highly recommended by DiscoverCars.com was Funchal, located on the Portugese island of Madeira.
Whilst the walkable city features its own array of unique attractions, tourists who get behind the wheel and head out into the surrounding countryside will find some incredibly mountainous roads.
The company noted that Madeira’s unique landscape features one of the world’s largest surviving laurel forests, which has been a part of the island for more than 20 million years.
Finally, DiscoverCars.com recommended that tourists thinking about going on a road trip where they can spot some wildlife consider visiting Kefalonia.
The popular Greek island is well-known for its picturesque fishing villages, but tourists who do not mind an early start can visit the town Argostoli to see turtles swim up to fishing boats for food.
Those looking to get some impressive photos can also take a trip to the Cave of Melissani, a small lake that has had a beam of light shining onto it ever since part of the roof collapsed several centuries ago.
