For those already planning their summer holidays, there is a perfect Greek island which boasts not only some of the most beautiful beaches, but delicious food and ancient ruins to explore.
The Greek island of Crete is perfect for holidaymakers and Chania on the northwest coast of Crete is known for its stunning beaches.
One of these is Seitan Limania, which translates to Satan’s Harbour – but don’t let the sinister name scare you off.
Famed for its clear waters as well as its stunning rocky surroundings, this secluded beach is a must see. However, it’s not for the faint hearted.
The road to the beach is steep and winding, and once you reach the carpark at the top of the cliffs it’s a tricky path down to this tiny bay.
You have to climb down rocks, and it is steep – so make sure you’re wearing appropriate shoes. However, what you find at the bottom is well worth the trip.
This little cove is gorgeous and populated by a herd of wild goats who traipse across the bay in search of unattended picnics.
Make sure you keep an eye on these cheeky animals as they have no qualms about stealing your sandwiches – however they’re also happy for a gentle pat or a photo opportunity.
The water is warm with silvery fish darting to and fro, and the surrounding cliffs are great for jumping off – just make sure you check the depth of the water and any hidden rocks before you leap.
As well as its gorgeous beaches, Chania also offers incredible food. The Greek classic of gyros can be found pretty much anywhere in this region and it will never disappoint – and neither will the Greek hospitality.
For culture lovers, there’s also the ancient ruins of Minoan civilizations which can be found across Crete.
Situated to the north of Falassarna Beach, the Ancient city of Falassarna was the northwesternmost polis (city-state) in Ancient Crete and today makes a perfect day trip for people interested in ancient history.
The acropolis of the city includes a merchant’s house, where imported goods were found as well as a winery, warehouses, and baths. Various coins, ceramics, and other finds are now on display at the Chania Archaeological Museum, as well as the museum in Kissamos.
For people who want to get a jump on their summer holidays, Jet 2 has just announced they will be adding more flights to Chania starting in April 2026.
However, if you can’t wait and want to get the jump on your Grecian holiday early, Skyscanner is currently offering flights in April from just £135 return. Even better, Ryanair currently has flights from the UK to Crete in July for an incredible £7.99.
With the weather the UK has been experiencing lately, what sounds better than escaping the brutal and cold conditions? It's not going to get warmer anytime soon
