With winter well and truly here, what better way to spend a Sunday than a gorgeous brisk walk and a pub lunch at the end of it?
Experts at Millets have revealed their top ‘pub walks’ in England to complete this winter and one has come out on top. The research looked for walks that were accessible, family friendly and have at least one pub on the route.
The winning walk is the Seven Sisters and Friston Forest Circular which can be found near Eastbourne. The 12.7km walk takes visitors past a series of chalk cliffs and offers a variety of stunning views from cliffsides to lush forests.
Of course, in order to be the best, there has to be a warm and cosy pub to wander into – and this route has not one but three to choose from.
The ‘The Tiger Inn’ in East Dean, ‘The Selsey Arms’ in West Dean and ‘The Cuckmere Inn’ in Exceat are all great options – and there’s a National Trust Cafe along the route too if you fancy a cuppa.
The walk takes around three and a half hours to complete, making it perfect for an easy afternoon out.
The second most popular winter walk is also in Eastbourne. Seaford to Eastbourne is a route that is considered somewhat challenging, but with good weather its unbeatable. The route offers views of brilliantly white cliffs, verdant green grass and awe-inspiring lookouts over the English Channel.
The walk takes you past beaches, as well as past lighthouses and into Cuckmere Haven. The trail starts in the centre of Seaford where there are many pubs including ‘Old Plough’ and ‘The Wellington Pub and Bed & Breakfast,’ and ends in Eastbourne close to ‘The London & County’.
