Yorkshire’s new signing Will Sutherland, last into the home attack, took three wickets in the space of eight balls to remove Hurst, Nottinghamshire’s Josh Tongue for a third-ball duck and Somerset’s England spinner Shoaib Bashir, while Brendan Doggett took 3-17.

Durham opener McKinney, who made 26 in the first innings, then reached the close unbeaten on 67 as the Lions made a better fist of it second time around.
