Golf apparel maker Ashworth Golf Company has announced the return of its founder, John Ashworth, to the role of creative director.
A California native and third-generation golfer, Ashworth founded his namesake golf apparel brand in 1987, with a focus on a clean, laid-back style an athletic performance. His designs quickly gained popularity among top PGA Tour players, including Fred Couples, John Cook and Ernie Els. Couples’ 1992 Masters victory, solidifying the U.S. brand’s position as a leader in golf attire.
In 1997, Ashworth stepped away from his brand to pursue “other ventures rooted in his passion for golf and community,” according to a press release. With Ashworth Golf returning to the market in 2023, the founder’s return signifies a new era for the brand, coinciding with a growth renaissance across the golf apparel industry in recent years.
“I always had a feeling that at some point, when the timing was right, I’d be back, and now here we go. We’ll continue to innovate, push the boundaries and create great clothing for the golf community. I’m looking forward to sharing my experience and passion with a new generation of golfers,” said Ashworth.
The global golf apparel market size is projected to grow from $9.07 billion in 2024 to $13.28 billion by 2032, at a CAGR of 4.87% over the forecast period, according to Fortune Business Insights.
