Arsenal have got at least one foot in the quarter-finals of the Champions League after battering PSV 7-1 in Eindhoven.
The first leg of the last 16 tie could scarcely have gone any better for the Gunners as they ripped their host to shreds, becoming the first team in Champions League history to score seven or more goals away from home in a knockout match.
Jurrien Timber, Ethan Nwaneri and Mikel Merino scored the first three for Mikel Arteta’s men before Noa Lang scored from the penalty spot just before half-time.
That was no start of a comeback, though, as Martin Odegaard scored straight after the break and Leandro Trossard netted again 90 seconds later.
Gunners captain Odegaard made it six on 73 minutes and the Dutch fans were leaving in their droves, many did not see Riccardo Calafiori score the seventh in the dying minutes.

An unforgettable night for Arsenal as they make Champions League history and book their spot in the quarter-finals despite still having a second leg to play.
The Gunners will face little pressure at the Emirates with a six-goal lead and can already look ahead to either Real Madrid or Atletico Madrid in the last eight.
Real won the first leg 2-1 at home on Tuesday night.
The nightmare is at an end for PSV as the final whistle goes on their 7-1 defeat to Arsenal.
A stunning night for the Gunners.
Tyrell Malacia booked for a poor lunge on Ben White
Riccardo Calafiori continues the utter humiliation of Arsenal’s hosts.
The Italian left-back is now on the right as he gets on the end of a sublime through ball from Odegaard. He finishes neatly.
Seven. Ridiculous.
Olivier Boscagli and Ismael Saibari off, Armando Obispo and Joey Veerman on.
Good save from Benitez as he turns a Zinchenko effort behind and avoids further embarrassment.
The winners of this tie – so probably Arsenal – get one of the Madrid sides in the quarter-finals.
Real currently lead Atletico 2-1.
Unsurprisingly the PSV fans are leaving in pretty big numbers. A disastrous evening for their side.
Mikel Merino and Jurrien Timber are off and on come Ben White and Kieran Tierney.
Martin Odegaard again as PSV just want this night to be over.
The Arsenal captain strode forward through the middle of midfield and when he got to the edge of the box unleashed a left-footed effort which the keeper should have stopped but didn’t.
Six!
Oleksandr Zinchenko is on in place of Thomas Partey and Raheem Sterling replaces Ethan Nwaneri.
Trossard has the ball in the back of the net after rounding the goalkeeper, but he was a long way offside.
It’s a booking for Jurrien Timber for time-wasting.
Off go Luuk de Jong and Richard Ledezma for PSV. On come Rick Karsdorp and Johan Bakayoko
With Arsenal’s lack of options in attack and PSV fearsome reputation at home, it was reasonable to expect this to be a tight, possibly cagey affair.
It has been the total opposite.
Nwaneri is looking very threatening. He has a pop on his left foot from the edge of the box. It’s blocked and Arsenal have a corner.
Rice whips it in and Gabriel heads into the ground and watches the ball bounce over the bar.
It was a great chance.
Life still in PSV as Malacia crosses, finds Perisic and a volley is blocked by Gabriel.
From the corner, Perisic eventually finds De Jong who forces a save from Raya with a header.
Lang has a dig as he cuts in from the left on his right foot, but it’s wide.
Raya not happy that the PSV man was allowed a shot, but no damage done.
Leandro Trossard makes it five!
Incredible scenes. Calafiori and Trossard link up nicely on the left and the Italian slides in the Belgian who lifts a finish over the keeper and into the back of the net.
Stunning stuff.
