Britain’s most valuable technology company has doubled down on its presence in the UK after unveiling plans to expand into a new building in Cambridge.
Chip designer Arm, which is worth $170bn based on its current share price, has signed a lease for the entire Optic building at British Land’s Peterhouse Technology Park which is scheduled for completion in February 2025.
The move adds to Arm’s large footprint in the city. The firm already occupies all six buildings at Peterhouse Technology Park, totalling 330,000 sq ft.
According to developer British Land, the Optic building is all electric and has been developed to the highest sustainability standards, targeting BREEAM ‘Excellent’ accreditation and featuring 94 EV charging points, solar panels, and a 2,500 sq ft roof terrace for socialising.
Michael Wiseman, Head of Workspace Leasing and Science & Technology, at British Land commented: “Arm is a globally significant business and its commitment to expand in Cambridge and the UK demonstrates the strength of our tech ecosystems and the growing demand for high specification offices and lab spaces in the Cambridge area.
“The UK, particularly the Golden Triangle, is ideally suited to support the growth of the world’s top innovation firms, like Arm, due to its world class academic and research institutions and deep pool of talent.”
The move adds to Arm’s expansion plans in the UK, following its recent decision to build a presence in Bristol, one of the biggest semiconductor technology clusters in the UK. Arm also has offices in Manchester. Outside the UK, Arm also has a major presence in France as well as in California, US, where many of the firm’s senior leadership are based.
