BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – Andrew Carr, a graduate-student on the Kentucky men’s basketball team, has been selected to the Southeastern Conference Community Service Team, the league office announced on Wednesday.
The SEC sponsors Community Service Teams for all 22 league-sponsored sports. The Community Service Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to his community in superior service efforts.
Carr has made a profound impact on the Bluegrass in his lone year in a Kentucky uniform. The West Chester, Pennsylvania, native has completed more than 25 service hours since arriving in Lexington in June, leading a team that has made service a priority in head coach Mark Pope’s first season at Kentucky.
Carr, a transfer from Wake Forest, has been a mainstay visiting the kids at UK Children’s Hospital, supporting multiple Lexington Parks and Recreation initiatives and reading to children at local elementary schools. He took part in the team’s retreat to Hazard, Kentucky, in August, where the Wildcats held a gathering for the community and took part in home building and repair projects for a full weekend. Carr also has taken part in a field day with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Bluegrass, packed bags of food and meals for God’s Pantry and Bluegrass Hospitality Group’s Thanksgiving charitable efforts and visited with members of the Down Syndrome of Louisville team.
The 6-foot-11 forward is a 2024 graduate of Wake Forest University with a degree in communications. He began his career at Delaware where he was tabbed a Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week during his freshman season. As a sophomore, he helped lead the Blue Hens to the CAA Championship and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Carr was a CAA All-Tournament Team selection for his efforts. In two years at Wake, he was a two-time Atlantic Coast Conference All-Academic Team selection and earned ACC Player of the Week once. Following a 17-point, six-rebound, three-assist effort in an upset of No. 6 Duke, Carr was tabbed as the SEC Player of the Week earlier this season.
For the season, Carr is averaging 10.0 points per game, 4.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game. He’s connecting on 54.3% of his field-goal attempts and has reached double figures in 17 games, including a season-best 20-point performance against No. 1 Auburn.
The Wildcats will conclude their regular season at Missouri on Saturday. UK is set to take on the Tigers at Noon ET and the game will air on ESPN.
