Liverpool manager Arne Slot told Jamie Carragher that he was not ‘informed well enough’ about his style of play.
In the aftermath of the Reds’ 2-1 comeback win over Brighton, club legend Carragher had claimed Slot did not want to see his side playing the same ‘end-to-end football’ that they did under Jurgen Klopp.
However, days later, the Dutchman rejected the analysis and stated his similarity to his German predecessor was a key reason he was hired.
Speaking to CBS Sports after Liverpool’s 4-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen, he said “Most of the time in your career you have been right, in this situation maybe you weren’t informed well enough… I like the high press just as much as Jurgen liked it.
“I think that’s also one of the reasons why Liverpool came to me, that our playing style was quite similar.
“What I do agree with you about Jamie is maybe with the ball… risk vs reward, sometimes wait a bit longer to play the ball in behind.
“But what we always want from our players is that we press them really high and that’s what we did in the moments you showed.”
Slot then added insult to injury after twice snubbing Carragher when asked to pick his favourite on the CBS panel, with the latter joined by Thierry Henry, Micah Richards and host Kate Scott.
“Do you want the honest answer? Then it’s going to be Kate of course!” Slot smiled.
“But if I have to choose between the three men, then Tony the [Liverpool] press officer will probably tell me I have to choose the one who played for Liverpool. But I came from an era where I watched Dennis Bergkamp a lot for Arsenal together with Thierry Henry, so…”
