Kentucky Wildcats big man Amari Williams has etched his name into the program’s record books, surpassing an assist mark that stood for four decades.
With his latest performance, Williams has now reached 80 assists this season, marking the first time a 7-footer has hit that mark in program history.
He previously broke the UK single-season record for assists by a Kentucky player at least 7-feet tall, which was the 66 Sam Bowie had during the 1983-84 season, according to Corey Price.

Williams’ achievement highlights his unique skill set as a versatile big man capable of facilitating the offense. At 7-feet tall, his ability to pass out of the post, find open teammates, and keep the offense flowing has made him a valuable asset for head coach Mark Pope’s system. His vision and court awareness allow Kentucky to run sets through him, creating opportunities for shooters and cutters alike.
In addition to his playmaking, Williams has been a consistent presence for the Wildcats on both ends of the floor. He has been a force in the paint, providing rebounding, shot-blocking, and scoring when needed. His ability to impact the game in multiple ways has been crucial as Kentucky continues its push through SEC play.
Surpassing a record held by a Kentucky legend like Bowie is no small feat, and Williams’ all-around contributions make him one of the most dynamic big men to wear the blue and white.
As the season progresses, his assist total will likely continue to rise, further cementing his place in Wildcats history.
