All the countries British travellers are being warned to avoid visiting in 2025

There are several reasons a country might be on the UK government’s ‘Do Not Travel’ list. It could be because of conflict, security, health risks, extreme weather or legal differences with the UK. Basically it’s anywhere that your health, safety or freedom could be at risk. Kind of obvious, really.

Still, it’s useful to have an official list of all the no-go zones from the Foreign Office. Technically, you can still go to the countries on the list, but you won’t be able to get travel insurance and there could be a lack of consular support if anything bad happens. Also, your life could be in danger. So it’s not recommended.

A number of the nations on the list, such as Iran or Belarus, have been flagged because UK citizens are at risk of arrest. Others, such as Lebanon and Russia have been included because of the risks associated with recent or ongoing conflicts. As of January 2025, the only place included because of dangerous weather is Mayotte, a French island between Madagascar and the coast of Mozambique, which was hit by a devastating cyclone last month.
