Aldi has once again increased its hourly wage rates for store assistants, following an announcement made earlier in January. The German supermarket chain, already the highest-paying in the UK, will raise its minimum hourly rate to £12.75 nationally and £14.05 within the M25 from 1st March 2025.

This latest increase is part of a series of pay rises announced by Aldi for its store colleagues. The retailer had previously revealed in January that hourly rates would rise to £12.71 (£14.00 within the M25) from March 1st.

With this additional increase, Aldi has outpaced its competitors, securing its position as the leading supermarket in terms of hourly wages. In addition to the March rise, a further increase will take effect in September 2025, pushing hourly pay to £12.85 nationally and £14.16 for those within the M25.

Aldi has also confirmed that pay will continue to increase based on length of service, with rates rising to £13.66 and £14.35 for employees with more experience. The supermarket, known for its commitment to treating staff well, remains the only retailer in the sector to offer paid breaks, which is estimated to provide an additional £1,370 per year for the average store colleague.

Aldi UK and Ireland CEO Giles Hurley said: “This latest increase recognises the important contribution that our colleagues make day in, day out and ensures they are rewarded fully for their contribution with industry-leading pay.”
