One of the beauties of modern technology is that new features and upgrades can be applied over the air (OTA) and owners of Apple’s AirPods Pro 2 earbuds in the UK just got one for free.
A few months after it was launched in the US, UK users are now being granted access to the Hearing Aid mode. It rolls out from today.
The clinical-grade feature has been validated in scientific tests against traditional methods. Users (18 years or older) will see a new Hearing Test in the AirPods settings which plays tones to assess the level of hearing loss.

You’ll be given a grading from mild to moderate along with a graph showing your hearing loss across the tested frequencies. The AirPods Pro 2 can then boost the sound around you based on the results.
There are various adjustments available as well as features such as Chat boost and Loud Sound Reduction. Apple says “the hearing profile is automatically applied to music, movies, games, and phone calls across devices” and you’ll also see different volume controls for the Hearing Aid feature and general media and call level.
