The Kentucky Wildcats are preparing for the future, and Mark Pope is still on the recruiting trail. Since losing John Calipari and hiring Pope, the Cats had to retool their roster completely.
For Pope, that meant targeting the transfer portal with extreme haste. However, he’s starting to turn into quite the recruiting, adding talent like Jasper Johnson, a 5-star recruit in the class of 2025. Malachi Moreno, one of the best centers in the class, was a huge addition as well.
Another name to keep an eye on is Acaden Lewis, who has scheduled an official visit to Lexington. According to Kentucky Sports Radio’s Jacob Polacheck, Lewis will be visiting for an official visit from Oct. 11-13, which is when Big Blue Madness will take place.
No better way to show a recruit what Kentucky’s passion for basketball is like than to have him come during that weekend. Lewis would be a huge get for the Cats as he’s ranked as the fifth-best point guard in the class and ranked 32nd nationally by 247 Sports. He is being recruited primarily by Jason Hart for Kentucky.
UConn and Duke are seen as the main competitors. He’s recently visited both schools, so a decision following this Kentucky visit should come in the near future.
The combination of Johnson and Lewis would be critical for the Cats next season and well into the future. Let’s hope Big Blue Madness puts on a show for Lewis!
