As the new year unfolds, travel enthusiasts are already setting their sights on the next big adventure.
ABTA’s Destinations to Watch report for 2025 has arrived just in time, offering inspiration ahead of Sunshine Saturday—one of the busiest days of the year for holiday bookings.
With nearly half of UK travelers planning to explore new destinations this year, ABTA’s report offers plenty of inspiration for the year ahead.
ABTA’s Director of Communications, Graeme Buck, said: “Millions of people are looking to go overseas this year with close to half of them saying that they’re looking to try somewhere new.
“Destinations to Watch’ gives a flavour of what might await them. Whether short or long haul; city or countryside; adventurous, cultural or simply offering a chance to relax – the report will have something for everyone.
“As ever, we have deliberately not chosen the ‘most popular’ or ‘fastest growing’ destinations, but instead aimed to inspire with some fantastic places, which may not currently be top of mind.”
In Europe, Denmark stands out with its picturesque towns and unspoiled landscapes, while Hungary offers a mix of beautiful countryside and historic cities at affordable prices.
The islands of the Côte d’Azur in France, just a short ferry ride from Cannes, promise a quieter retreat with stunning views and charming villages.
Italy’s Le Marche, with its dramatic coastline and ancient towns, rivals Tuscany, and Spain’s Oviedo, a hidden gem in Asturias, charms with its lively squares and great food.
Beyond Europe, Belize’s rainforests, beaches, and Mayan ruins make it a tropical paradise, while Japan’s Hokkaido captivates with its mountains, forests, and lakes.
Malawi, though landlocked, offers stunning beaches on Lake Malawi, surrounded by rich wildlife, and Quebec’s rich history is reflected in its cities and beautiful countryside.
Finally, Tasmania, Australia’s island paradise, blends breathtaking nature with a vibrant city scene in Hobart.
