Several Kamala Harris supporters on social media are rallying to demand President Joe Biden‘s resignation. This comes days after the Vice President lost the election to Republican Donald Trump by a massive margin. Harris has already conceded, urging Americans ‘to keep fighting’. But, why do her followers want Biden to reign? Well, its not that dramatic.
Hundreds of Harris supporters say that with Biden resigning, the VP will be able to achieve what she set out to in July – become the first woman president of the United States.
“President Biden should resign as an act of protest tomorrow so Kamala Harris could be sworn in as the first female president until January. That would make Trump 48 and ruin that stupid hat of his. Can we get this trending,” one person said on X, platform formerly known as Twitter.
“The Democrats have one revenge option: Biden resigns -> Kamala becomes the 47th president for the next 2 months -> All of Trump’s merch that calls him the 47th president becomes obsolete,” another person tweeted.
“Dear Joe Biden, Want to go out as a legend? Resign on Dec 1st and let Kamala Harris complete the term. She’ll officially be 47 and the first woman president. Go full dark Brandon,” a third one added on the Elon Musk-led platform.
“Joe Biden should resign on his 82nd birthday on 20 November, allowing Kamala Harris to become America’s first female president, till 20 January. That would be a decent legacy,” a Dominic Shelmerdine from London wrote to The Guardian.
According to theUS Constitution’s 25th Amendment, if the president of the United States resigns from office, “the Vice President shall become President,” at which point the new president. Harris can then “nominate a Vice President who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress.”
