But The Times says ministers are still standing by plans to phase out all new petrol and diesel cars by 2030, external. The paper also quotes groups representing car manufacturers saying the closure of the Luton plant is a “sobering reminder of the challenges” faced by the industry in developing new electric vehicle technologies.

The Telegraph has established that three former Conservative prime ministers – Boris Johnson, Baroness May and Liz Truss, external – do not support the bill to allow assisted dying.

The City of London Corporation says Billingsgate fish market will also shut down, after joint relocation plans for both sites were rejected due to spiralling costs.
