The Kentucky Wildcats welcomed the Jackson State Tigers to Rupp Arena on Friday night, continuing the Unity series with teams from the SWAC. In what ended up being an easy blowout, the Cats won 108-59.
For the first six minutes of the first half, this game was much closer than many likely thought it would be. Jackson State came out ready to play on both ends of the floor and gave the Cats some fits as they looked to get into a rhythm.
Unfortunately for JSU, it didn’t last long.
Eventually the talent gap just became too much for the Tigers. Not to mention the Cats shot a scorching 60% from the field in the first half, which allowed them to take a 54-30 lead into the locker room.
Coming out for the second half, it almost seemed like an NBA all-star game with the amount of transition dunks the Cats were putting down. Whether it was Jaxson Robinson, Otega Oweh, or Lamont Butler, this Kentucky squad once again got rolling on the offensive end of the floor.
Both teams got sloppy in the final 10 minutes of the game, but the Cats kept their foot on the pedal to win the blowout.
Kentucky’s next game is the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers on Tuesday night in Rupp Arena. It should be fun.
Go Cats!
There are several players we could hand this award to tonight, but I think we should give it to Koby Brea. He finished the night with 22 points on 8/11 shooting, including 5/8 from 3-point land. Brea also added two rebounds on the night.
It’s no secret that Brea is the best shooter in the country, but tonight, he showed off his ability to finish at the rim as well. As we continue to get deeper into the season, teams are going to start rushing him off the line, but now he has proven once again that he can finish at all three levels.
It’s time to chalk him up as one of the most dangerous scorers from anywhere on the court, next to Robinson and Oweh.
I can remember back in the summer when Koby Brea said he wasn’t sure if he was the best shooter on the team… Jaxson Robinson is lethal.

It’s only game 5 at UK, but Oweh is playing himself into getting drafted after this year. Thought he would be around for another year. #BBN

Head Coach Mark Pope talks about Koby Brea and his game outside of shooting threes
He says he playing great defensively & making plays at the rim.
He said his favorite moment of the night was when Koby Brea hit a 3 and then turned and started talking trash to him (coach pope) pic.twitter.com/MPO6h9Gdlx

This Kentucky team is SO dangerous in transition.
Lamont Butler does a great job of slicing the floor and looking opposite. Great passer in the open floor.
Love seeing Collin Chandler knock in a couple.

Mo Williams on Lamont Butler: “When you have a point guard that’s the head of the snake … that’s the only way you can go deep in the tournament with a point guard.”
