Inverness has been crowned the UK’s “most festive” city for 2024.
Research conducted by GO Outdoors pinpointed which UK destinations truly capture the essence of Christmas based on various criteria, including snowfall frequency, Christmas market duration and the number of pubs.
Topping the table, Inverness boasts a vast array of traditional pubs serving classic food and drink by roaring open fires.
The study revealed that Inverness enjoys an average of 27.1 days of snow annually, setting the stage for a magical white Christmas.
Visitors to the highland city can bask in the glow of the Brodie Illuminated event or wander through markets brimming with artisan gifts and seasonal delights.
Beyond the holiday season, Inverness is hailed as a “beautiful” spot for a getaway.
Perched within the Scottish Highlands, this lively yet quaint destination captures hearts whether you’re drawn to nature or prefer the bustle of city life.
A stone’s throw from both the breathtaking North Coast 500 and the Isle of Skye, Inverness promises spectacular coastal views and Instagram-worthy views, reports the Mirror.
Inverness Castle, perched on a hilltop with stunning views over the city and the river, is a must-see in the city centre. Another iconic attraction is Loch Ness, a vast loch renowned for its legendary monster.
The food and drink scene is also noteworthy, with Inverness previously crowned as one of the UK’s most affordable cities for a pint.
Glasgow secured second place for those seeking a festive getaway, thanks to its plethora of Christmas attractions.
The city is not only famous for its George Square Christmas Lights Switch On but also boasts Christmas markets that stays open for an impressive 58 days, which is longer than any other city.
Moreover, with 44 local walking trails and 58 cabins within a 30-mile radius, visitors can easily combine festive shopping with picturesque outdoor adventures.
Edinburgh, another Scottish city, completes the top three, courtesy of its 64 nearby walking trails, including the Arthur’s Seat and Salisbury Crags loop from Holyrood, and 50 days of Christmas markets.
Brighton and Hove, Nottingham and Manchester also made it onto the list of the UK’s most festive cities, while Dundee and Cambridge rounded out the top 10.
