In a significant expansion move, Jet2 launched its 13th UK operating base at London Luton Airport (LLA) on Monday, November 13, 2024, adding more flight options for travelers in the capital and surrounding areas. Starting April 1, 2025, the UK’s largest tour operator will offer up to 36 weekly flights from Luton to 17 popular holiday destinations, reinforcing its position as one of the UK’s leading leisure airlines.
The new routes are designed to meet high demand from holidaymakers who value the convenience and accessibility of London Luton Airport. Jet2’s schedule will cover a range of destinations, including Spain, the Canary Islands, the Balearic Islands, Turkey, Greece, Italy, Portugal, and Madeira. Each destination has been selected based on popularity among UK travelers, and the airline will offer multiple weekly flights on several routes to accommodate peak seasonal demand.
Jet2’s Chief Executive Officer, Steve Heapy, commented on the expansion:
“We are thrilled to announce our new base at London Luton Airport, providing even more choice and flexibility for customers in the capital and surrounding areas. London Luton’s ease and accessibility make it a perfect match for our customer-first approach, and we’re excited to deliver our award-winning service to travelers here.”
The inaugural flight from Luton, bound for Majorca, is scheduled to depart on April 1. Jet2 will base two Airbus A321neo aircraft at the airport, both of which will be deployed across the 17 routes. The airline’s choice of the fuel-efficient A321neo aligns with its broader sustainability goals, including reduced emissions and operating costs. With seating for up to 232 passengers, the A321neo allows Jet2 to increase capacity while maintaining competitive prices and minimizing its carbon footprint.
London Luton Airport has long been favored by passengers for its straightforward and efficient travel experience, and the addition of Jet2 is expected to further enhance its appeal. The partnership will bring Jet2’s full-service package holiday and flight-only options to the area, giving customers access to a wide selection of value-oriented, customizable holiday experiences.
With this new base, Jet2 joins other low-cost carriers that have made Luton a focal point for travelers heading to Europe and beyond. The airport has reported steady growth in passenger numbers, and the arrival of Jet2 is likely to drive further demand. In preparation, the airport has made several upgrades to streamline its passenger processing and improve amenities.
The new London Luton base is part of Jet2’s wider growth plan as it continues to add UK airport bases and expand its fleet. In addition to establishing its 13th base, Jet2 has made significant investments in modernizing its aircraft fleet, recently placing orders for more Airbus A321neo planes to support increased demand across the UK. This expansion follows similar moves by Jet2, including the addition of a base at Bournemouth Airport, as the airline aims to solidify its presence in southern England.
While expanding its network, Jet2 remains committed to sustainable practices. The new A321neo aircraft not only provide a fuel-efficient option but also align with Jet2’s goals of reducing carbon emissions in its operations. This approach underscores the company’s investment in both growth and environmental responsibility.
As Jet2 prepares for its inaugural flight from London Luton in April, customers can begin booking holidays from the new base. The expanded route map is expected to attract a diverse range of travelers—from families seeking all-inclusive holidays to young adults and couples looking for affordable flights to Europe’s most popular sun and beach destinations. Jet2’s addition to London Luton’s roster will likely enhance the airport’s position as a gateway for UK holidaymakers seeking ease, affordability, and choice in their travel plans.
With a strong reputation for customer service and a comprehensive network of routes, Jet2’s expansion at London Luton reflects its long-term commitment to the UK market and to providing accessible, value-driven holidays for millions. This new base will enable Jet2 to capitalize on the growing demand for convenient, low-cost holiday travel, while bringing added value to the London Luton area and supporting local jobs.
