Atherstone is located less than an hour away from Birmingham and driving out of the city towards the countryside, you’ll have the chance to stop off at many pretty little spots on your way.
The town is a popular spot for people who live in and around Birmingham to visit, but if you’re not from the area, you can take a trip to Atherstone if you happen to find yourself near the second city.
It is a historic market town with a variety of things to do and see such as visiting its high street or taking a walk out into the surrounding countryside.
As you pass through its quaint high street, you’ll see timber-framed buildings merged with modernised architecture.
The original town centre has changed very little in the 750 years it has been there for and at its core, you will find St. Mary’s Church and the Market Square.
One notable place to visit in Atherstone is Twycross Zoo, this popular tourist attraction has been a favourite for many since it opened in the 1960s.

To get to Atherstone from Birmingham, there is a train which takes 40 minutes, or you can drive which takes around 30 minutes.
There are several hiking and walking routes around Atherstone and you can pick your route depending on how much time you have or difficulty.
If you’d like to walk along some of the canals in the area, take the route from Atherstone to Nuneaton along this path. This walk is around 13 miles and it’s also a popular route for runners.
One of the top rated pubs in the area is the Rose Inn, Baxterley. The pub is a great place to stop for lunch while you’re exploring the area. It sits behind the village green and duck pond with an orchard and large relaxing area overlooking the pond.
