With several recent runners from the Paul Nicholls yard underperforming, often at short prices, it might be worth opposing STAGE STAR and HITMAN in the 2m4f Old Roan Limited Handicap Chase. MINELLA DRAMA has possibilities but the one I’m going to chance in Lucinda Russell’s AHOY SENOR, despite comprehensive defeats on his last two seasonal debuts. The key to the nine-year-old is the return to Aintree where his record reads 11322 (2-5) with the runner-up efforts to Shishkin and Gerri Colombe but just a length and a half and half a length respectively. His stable is in good form, saddling three winners at Kelso yesterday, and he rates a buy in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market or a fixed odds play (5-1 at the time of writing).

FORTESCUE is very consistent over fences when given a field of 11 or fewer runners, recording form figures of 1211211323142722 (6-16) for a profit of £28.50 to a £1 level stake at SP and he has his conditions in this veterans’ handicap chase. Henry Daly’s ten-year-old will appreciate the switch to this company rather than taking on younger rivals and his stable has started the season in good fashion. Softer ground would have been preferable but this represents a big drop in class after his 16^th of 20 in the bet365 Gold Cup on his final outing last term and he ran well on his comeback last season. Buy in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market or take a fixed odds price.
