Beer has long been hailed as the drink of choice for many Brits and is historically the most popular beverage.

Consumption of beer increased again in 2018 with a whopping 8.5 billion pints being sold.

Globally, beer is the most popular drink according to Insider Monkey, making it the top choice after water and tea.

In Europe, several countries are famed for their impressive breweries.

But where are the biggest drinking cities in Europe?

Turns out, Spain is the country with the most cities sharing their love of beer.

In fact, the country is home to the biggest beer drinking cities with a total of four found in Spain that share their love for beer.

Andalucia, the southernmost region of Spain, shares the crown for biggest beer drinking cities along with Madrid, Barcelona and Malaga – all consuming 104 litres of beer consumed per person annually.

The Andalucian capital of Sevilla loves a good pint with the all-conquering Cruzcampo and Rio Azul beers a firm favourite amongst locals.

The warm climate of Sevilla makes it an ideal spot to quench your thirst on some local beers which can be washed down with some tantalising tapas.

A UK-based 2022 study by the financial website Money.co.uk found that this region is one of the top beer-consuming European cities.

The study also attested Sevilla’s tourist industry likely owing to its mass beer consumption as the region hosts countless visitors all year round sampling the city’s famous brews.

But the top spot in Europe with the biggest beer drinkers goes to Prague.

This Czech Republic capital city is famed for its iconic beer culture with a whopping 144 litres of beer consumed per person annually.

After Prague, Poland is home to two cities with a big love of beer, with both Krakow and Warsaw each consuming 127 litres of beer.

Germany is next with an impressive three cities that can’t get enough of beer, including Frankfurt, Berlin and Munich – all with 107 litres of beer consumed.
