Regarded as the ‘Jewel of Mayfair’, London’s Burlington Arcade still has to go the extra mile to attract customers/tourists to its upscale location.
So the world’s “oldest luxury shopping emporium”, said to attract 4.5 million visitors a year, has created an 007 experience in homage to the James Bond film Goldfinger, which is 60 years old this year.
It includes three handcrafted golden hanging sculptures, inspired by the iconic Aston Martin DB5, at the centre of the Arcade.
As visitors walk underneath, there’s also a carpet with famous lines taken from the film.
Open until 31 December, the experience also has two pop-up two bars featuring a signature cocktail (Martini, shaken not stirred?).
The first floor also has a 007 boutique offering collectibles to buy, including a range of Burlington Arcade exclusive pieces.
Visitors can also seek out movie props including Oddjob’s hat, a Fort Knox gold bar, Goldfinger’s golf shoes and the spy-hole clock from his private plane.
The arcade has transformed itself in recent years from one best known for its jewellers and silversmiths to a luxury fashion brand destination. Its tenants include luxury fashion, perfumeries, fine jewellery, leather goods and artistic hubs and is currently home to flagship stores such as Manolo Blahnik, Anya Hindmarch, Strathberry, Baudoin & Lange, Vilebrequin, Begg X Co, N.Peal, Omega Vintage Boutique, The Vintage Watch Company and Globe-Trotter.
In recent months, Burlington Arcade has also appointed real estate advisor Savills as the sole leasing agent.
