A British women who is touring around Sri Lanka has been left gobsmacked by a housing estate that resembles the UK.
Travelling abroad is a fun experience not just for relaxing, have fun and see tourist spots, but see how people from different parts of the world eat – from their culturual traditions, food, clothing, and homes. When exploring the beautiful south Asian island country of Sri Lanka, you would expect it to be a far cry from what the UK looks like.
So imagine the suprise when one woman found cobbles paths and red brick houses. Kara Wildbury, better known as okay.kara.travels on her Instagram page where she shares her best travel tips, is currently travellling around Asia. The content creator recently hiked the “scariest” tower in Sri Lanka. While in the country, she also explored an area called Little England, in Nuwara Eliya.
The quaint housing estate, which features British architecture blended with Sri Lankan charm, left her stunned. “It genuinely looks like the UK,” Kara said.
Kara, who shared a video of her experience in Little England, said she got a tuktuk to the area. “Would you expect to see a UK house estate in Sri Lanka?,” she said.
She added: “I know it might be hard to believe right now, judging by the house behind mind, but I am not actually in the UK. We are travelling around Sri Lanka and currently in a place called Nuwara Eliya and they have a little housing estate called Little England.”
Kara said its “insane” how much the area resembles home – she says the only difference is the weather and “beautiful blue skies”. She even found pigeons in the area, “British-looking” flowers, and lamposts on the street.
The travel lover found an old English-style building which is home to the local post office. She sent post cards from Little England to her family members for 30p per one.
A number of people commented on the video. One individual, who has also visited the area, said: “It was really cool.
“The ponies roaming around town also add a lot of charm. We went to the park behind the city hall building and there are ponies running around the soccer and cricket fields while people are playing. So cool and definitely one of our favorites.”
“That fascinating, love the English style houses,” added another. “The UK wished it looked like this,” joked another.
