It was a surprise hit, with the Lidl ‘Croissant Handbag’ initial drop selling out after two minutes and then a London Fashion Week pop-up, ‘Patisserie Lidl’, that saw queues around the block.
But that’s not the end of the story. Now the value supermarket chain’s giving fans a last chance to get their hands on the bag… via the rental route.
In collaboration with the UK’s largest peer-to-peer fashion rental app, By Rotation, the leather Lidl x Nik Bentel Croissant Handbag will be available to rent from just £5 a day, down from £50 RRP. All proceeds are going to children’s charity NSPCC.
The partnership becomes the second between Lidl and By Rotation, after the supermarket’s Christmas jumper rentals from just £2 also made headlines last year.
Designed by ‘absurdist’ designer Nikolas Bentel, the bag is a tribute to the best-selling Lidl Bakery item that sells 122 every minute, according to the supermarket.
Customers renting the handbag will receive a crescent shaped leather ‘croissant purse’ with a golden zip and trolley coin, encased within a soft, premium-feeling leather ‘bakery bag’, and three straps to choose from.
Eshita Kabra, founder and CEO of By Rotation, said: “We are over the moon to partner with Lidl again and contribute to the waves the brand is making in the world of luxury fashion. We’ve followed the journey of the Lidl x Nikolas Bentel ‘Croissant Handbag’ from unexpected collaboration to established staple of London Fashion Week, and are thrilled to be able to offer such an in-demand item for use and re-use on our platform.”
