The weekend is here, which unfortunately for motorists means plenty of planned road closures – including the M25, A1 and the Dartford Crossing.

Works on the M25 continue as part of a £317m project to increase the number of lanes at junction 10 with the A3.

But thankfully it’s an overnight closure – not the whole weekend. There have been three full-weekend closures this year so far, but National Highways has previously said there will be no more until Spring 2025.

Meanwhile, on the A1, there are overnight carriageway closures north and southbound to allow for major carriageway works.

There are also overnight carriageway, slip road and link road closures on the M6 in both directions for maintenance works. The QEII Bridge and Dartford east tunnel will be closed over the weekend.

All together there are 40 road closures across the country today. You can find the full list on the National Highways website.

A127 drivers told to ‘take care’ as fire roars nearby

A fire has broken out in Basildon, Essex, and firefighters expect it to roar for most of this weekend.

With locals asked to keep their windows and doors shut, smoke spewing from the centre on  Hovefields Avenue could pose a danger to drivers using the A127 between the Nevendon interchange and Rayleigh Spur roundabout.
