Spanish locals have been left furious after ‘boozy British tourists’ have been causing a ‘ruckus’ on flights, causing fights and blasting music. Footage emerged last week on social media of multiple incidents of this occuring, with unruly passengers dragged away by security upon landing.
In one shocking video that surfaced online, a flight from Manchester to Ibiza was diverted, after a drunk British man reportedly downed a bottle of duty free vodka, before hitting cabin crew and spitting on other passengers. The flight had to make an emergency landing in Tolouse, where the man and his wife were dragged off.
Another passenger onboard the flight said the husband had been arguing with a male member of the cabin crew, before he punched him in the face. The man was then ‘out of control’ and ‘kicking off’.
RyanAir, the airline the passengers had been travelling on, have announced their plan to get the British government to put a stop to this ‘dangerous behaviour. RyanAir CEO Michael O’Leary revealed his crackdown on disorder last week, calling for flyers to be limited to just two drinks at the airport.
“It’s not that easy for airlines to identify people who are inebriated. As long as they can stand up, they’ll get through.
“Then, when the plane takes off, we see the misbehaviour.”, he said in a statement.
The airline has implemented its own new rule, where passengers who are travelling to Ibiza must have their bags checked for alcohol prior to boarding. O’Leary told The Telegraph that these unruly incidents are now a weekly occurence, and are often exaggerated with alcohol combined with drugs.
“We don’t want to begrudge people having a drink. But we don’t allow people to drink-drive, yet we keep putting them up in aircraft at 33,000 feet.
“As long as they can stand up and shuffle they will get through. Then when the plane takes off we see the misbehaviour,” he continued.
