A stretch of the M5 was closed this morning following a serious crash on Monday morning, police have said.
Gloucestershire Police were called to the single-vehicle collision near junction 11A at around 2.40am.
The force said in a statement: “The occupants of the car have been taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital for treatment. Emergency services remain at the scene and a closure is in place between junctions 11A and 12.” The extent of the passengers’ injuries is not yet known.
Motorists are asked to avoid the area and find alternative routes.
“Anyone who witnessed the collision but has not yet spoken to police is asked to submit information by completing the following online form quoting incident 287 of 8 September,” police said, “Information on the diversion route can be found here.”
The southbound carriageway between junctions 11A for Gloucester and junction 12 for Quedgeley was closed following the incident.
According to traffic monitoring site Inrix, by 6.15am the M5 Southbound “re-opened, delays cleared, accident cleared from J11A A417 (Gloucester / Cirencester) to J12 A430 (Quedgeley / Hardwicke).
“Recovery has been completed and road has been reopened. No residual delays remain following the two hour road closure,” the website said.
Gloucester Constabulary and Southwestern Ambulance Service (SWAST) have been approached for further information.
