Jurgen Klopp is set to manage a team for a special testimonial match involving Lukasz Piszczek and Jakub Blaszczykowski at Borussia Dortmund this weekend

Former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is set to return to the dugout for a special testimonial at Borussia Dortmund on Saturday. The German, who announced his departure from the Reds in January and concluded his tenure with a 2-0 win over Wolves in May, will take charge of a game for the first time since his Anfield exit.

Although Klopp has confirmed he would take a break from football management for one year, he is expected to return to the technical area for a one-off match at the iconic Signal Iduna Park on Saturday, September 7.

This will be part of a farewell testimonial for two ex-Dortmund players, Lukasz Piszczek and Jakub Blaszczykowski, both of whom were integral members of the squad during Klopp’s tenure.

Klopp spent seven successful years at Dortmund between 2008 and 2015, winning 180 of his 319 matches in charge. During that time, Klopp guided Dortmund to the Bundesliga title twice, the DFB-Pokal and almost guided them to the Champions League, only to lose the 2012/13 final to Bayern Munich. Klopp is renowned as one of the greatest Dortmund managers ever and he is set to be back at the club this weekend.

In a promotional social media video last month, Piszczek initiated a call with Blaszczykowski, saying: “Kollega, we have a farewell game, do you know that? We need a coach and I have an idea, we’ll call the retired coach.”

Klopp then entered the frame wearing black sunglasses and said: “You finally have your farewell game. Oh my god. And you want to train, are you stupid?”

When asked if he was going to manage one or both teams, Klopp added: “I couldn’t care less. I do it like I used to, I start thinking about it five minutes beforehand.”

The video ended with “Kloppo ist dabei,” which translates to “Kloppo is there,” confirming his participation in the tribute match for the Dortmund stars. Current Dortmund boss Nuri Şahin, Neven Subotic, Sebastian Kehl and Marcel Schmelzer are among the others to feature.

Since leaving Liverpool, Klopp has enjoyed some well-earned time off. He was spotted at a Taylor Swift concert at Anfield earlier this summer before appearing at the Paralympics last week. Klopp was in Paris to watch a friend playing badminton at the Porte de la Chapelle Arena.
