Ten British players were included in the qualifying entry list for the US Open, but only Jan Choinski won through to reach the main draw.
Of those 10 Brits in qualifying, four reached the final round on Thursday, and Choinski was the only of them to emerge victorious when he overcame Maxime Cressy in the final round.
After falling in the first round of 2023 qualifying, he has made it to the main draw of the US Open for the first time.
He went three sets with America’s Cressy, prevailing 6-0 6-7 (5-7) 7-6 (12-10).
Sonay Kartal, who reached the third round of Wimbledon earlier this summer – a run which included a win over 29th seed Sorana Cirstea – lost to Ukraine’s Yulia Starodubtseva.
Despite picking up the first set, Kartal eventually succumbed 6-2 3-6 3-6 which brought her bid to make the main draw of the US Open for the first time to an end.
Lily Miyazaki had hopes of bettering her second-round performance in the main draw from 2023, but she lost to Germany’s Eva Lys in straight sets in the final round. Lys defeated her 6-1 6-2.
Billy Harris also made it into the final round of qualifying, looking to make the main draw for the first time too.
Trying to continue his impressive debut at Flushing Meadows, Harris did start well against Kazakhstan’s Timofey Skatov, winning the first set. But Skatov ultimately defeated him 4-6 6-0 6-3.
Heather Watson was the most experienced of the bunch at 32 years old, having reached a career-high ranking of 38 back in 2015. But she lost in the second round in straight sets, 6-1 6-4 to world No 101 Aliaksandra Sasnovich.
Francesca Jones sadly had to retire in her second-round match against Ena Shibahara, who advanced into the final round 6-4 4-1.
Paul Jubb took Finland’s Otto Virtanen to three sets on Wednesday, but was ultimately defeated 3-6 7-6 (7-3) 3-6.
Jubb had previously beaten countryman Jacob Fearnley 6-1 7-6 (7-2) and had earned a first top-20 win when defeating Ben Shelton at the Mallorca Championships on his way to a first ATP semi-final appearance.
There was early disappointment for Oliver Crawford, who was beaten 6-4 6-4 by American JJ Wolf.
Liam Broady also suffered a disappointing first-round exit, losing in straight sets 7-5 7-6 (9-7) to Virtanen.
Both Jubb and Fearnley impressed during the grass-court season this summer, with the latter winning his first ATP Challenger title at the Nottingham Open before taking a set off Novak Djokovic when reaching the second round of Wimbledon.
