The parents of the Love Is Blind cast are often a highlight of the series, from AD’s mum in season six, to Natalie’s dad in season two, they hold special places in fans’ hearts, known for heartfelt conversations, hilarious one liners, and putting prospective partners in their places.
Yet in the UK version of the series, we’ve been missing some of the couples’ family members, most notably Tom’s mum. We didn’t get to see her on screen for the lunch with Tom, and his sisters meeting Maria for the first time, and we’ve now learnt she also won’t be present for his wedding to Maria. And now Tom has addressed why his mum has been MIA from the series.
Taking to his Instagram Stories on Friday evening (16th August) for a Q+A session with fans of the series, Tom was asked by one follower why his mum was missing from the show, to which he explained she is a very private person.
“My mum is my rock and I would’ve loved to have shown people how amazing she is, but she is a very private person and had absolutely no desire to be on TV in front of millions of people,” he revealed.
Tom then added his mum had in fact met Maria before the wedding ceremony took place but it happened off camera.
“Her and Maria spent the day together in London though and they were two peas in a pod and had lots of similarities,” he said.
Family was one of the first things Tom and Maria bonded over in the pods, with Tom candidly revealing the impact of having his dad leave him at a younger age had on his romantic relationships. And Maria opened up about her father, who sadly passed away during the COVID pandemic.
During the series, following their engagement we do get to see Maria and Tom meet each other’s families. The pair travel to Southampton to have lunch with Maria’s mum and sister, and Tom seemed to get on with her family very well.
They then had Tom’s sisters over for lunch at their Camden apartment, where Maria revealed she didn’t want to pay Tom’s mortgage, which the sisters understood and also said how much they liked Maria.
However, it hasn’t been all smooth sailing for the couple, with the pair conflicting over money issues, as Maria revealed she expected a man to pay for everything during the initial courtship phase, which Tom was surprised by and took issue with.
So will they be able to make it work and say “I do”? We’ll have to wait for the final wedding episodes to find out, which drop on Netflix on 21st August.
