A tiny airport in the UK has been named the “best” to travel to this summer and flies to beautiful destinations such as Iceland, Majorca, and Amsterdam.
The Online Marketing Survey has revealed five options for the UK’s quietest airports which are the best to travel from if you prefer short queue times.
Coming in at the top is Humberside Airport in Kirmington, Lincolnshire with only 136,976 passengers last year.
The airport was originally RAF Kirmington, a Royal Air Force station during World War II. It was converted to a civilian airport in 1974.
The airport offers both domestic and international flights, with regular services to destinations such as Aberdeen and Amsterdam, as well as seasonal holiday flights to various European destinations such as Bulgaria, Finland, Iceland and Majorca among others.
The Airport features a range of facilities for travellers, including car parking, car hire services, a café, and a duty-free shop.
It is a base for helicopter flights servicing the North Sea oil and gas industry, with many offshore workers using the airport for transfers.
It’s easily accessible by road via the A18, with good connections to the M180 motorway. Public transport options include bus services linking the airport to nearby towns.
A close second is Southend in Essex, with Southend-on-Sea airport only seeing 146,072 pass through in 2023. Teesside International Airport is a comfortable third with 226,557 passengers last year.
The fourth and fifth slots go to Norwich with 357,852 and Newquay with 408,870.
The busiest airport, unsurprisingly, is Heathrow, with an impressive nearly 80 million terminal passengers in 2023.
Gatwick comes in second with close to 41 million, while Manchester ranks third with nearly 30 million.
Stansted, Luton, Edinburgh, and Birmingham follow in sequence.
