The Olympics has reached its final day with Team GB adding more medals to conclude a successful Paris 2024.
Emma Finucane won her third medal of the Olympics, adding bronze in the women’s sprint on Sunday to gold in the women’s team sprint and bronze in the women’s keirin. Finucane defeated Hetty van de Wouw in the bronze medal final, but there was disappointment for Jack Carlin as he crashed out of the men’s keirin final on the last day of action at the Velodrome.
Emily Campbell won bronze in the women’s weightlifting final, adding to the historic silver medal she claimed in Tokyo three years ago. Campbell’s bronze was Great Britain’s 65th medal of the Games, which took them above their total from Tokyo.
Earlier, Sifan Hassan prevailed in a race for the ages thanks to a vicious kick after more than 26 miles to fend off world record holder Tigst Assefa and win gold in the women’s marathon.
The final medal of the games comes in the women’s basketball with USA looking to win and take top spot in the medal table as they go up against hosts France.

The area surrounding the Eiffel Tower has been evacuated after a man was seen climbing up the Paris landmark hours before the Olympics closing ceremony.

It’s unclear where he began his ascent, but he was spotted just above the Olympic rings adorning the second section of the monument, just above the first viewing deck.

Olympics 2024: United States 25-25 France
A tip-in beats the buzzer for the United States to draw back on level terms at the half-time interval. They have been largely second best so far in a scrappy contest that has rather suited this French side with the crowd behind them. Remember, the USA’s women haven’t lost at the Olympics since 1992.

From the other side of Paris! A remarkable three from the Paris 2024 logo on halfway, Marine Fauthoux tossing a prayer and having it answered with nothing but net. We’ll take a timeout with the two teams locked together at 23 apiece.

Olympics 2024: United States lead women’s basketball gold medal match
A low-scoring start to this tight, tense and physical final, both defences dominating and forcing low-percentage shots. France have had twice as many shots as the United States and are dominating the boards, but just two of their 16 attempts have found the hoop.
It’s eight points to five in the USA’s favour with just under three minutes to go in the quarter.

Olympics 2024: Cartwheeling Emily Campbell claims another Olympic medal
Emily Campbell closed the show with a cartwheel after clinching bronze in the women’s +81kg category to become the first British weightlifter to win two Olympic medals in over half a century.
The Nottingham 30-year-old celebrated on stage after setting a new combined personal best of 288kg over snatch and clean-and-jerk disciplines to finish behind defending champion Li Wenwen of China and 21-year-old Park Hye-jeong of South Korea.
An audacious bid to muscle in on silver with a last lift of 174kg fell short but there was no disguising Campbell’s delight after finishing with a cumulative total five kilograms better than the one that sealed her silver medal in Tokyo.
