Amid a growing trend of bargain-hunters seeking the best deals for their pint, European cities such as Budapest, Prague, and Krakow have become increasingly popular with British tourists keen to indulge in cheap alcohol.
Just in time for International Beer Day today (Friday, August 2), one Englishman has claimed to have discovered the “cheapest beer in the world”.
In a video shared to TikTok video, Louie Carabott is seen basking in his location’s vibrant nightlife, exclaiming: “You can get 17 beers out here for the price of one in the UK – I know what I’m going to be doing today.”
Contentedly supping away, he gleefully shared that he was in Vietnam, boasting: “It cost me 40p… so I thought I’d buy two.”
His verdict on the beer? “Pretty decent to be fair,” he affirmed, adding: “You can literally have 10 of them and not spend over £5.”
With a jovial dig at steep British pub prices, and seemingly in high spirits, he cheerfully advised: “It’s worth getting the plane just to have the beer. The cost of living out here in South East Asia is crazy.
“I’ve just had a meal – it cost me about £2 and the room I’m staying in is £10 a night. I’ve spent no money out here compared to the UK.”
Other Brits shared their own cheap experiences in Vietnam. One TikTok user responded: “We’ve just come from Vietnam we found a beer for 25p.” Another enthused: “It’s ridiculously cheap here and I never want to live back home again.”
Reflecting on even cheaper times gone by, a third TikTok commenter reminisced: “Fresh beer in Vietnam used to be 8p a cup. The good old days. Enjoy!”
International Beer Day, celebrated on the first Friday of August each year, originated in Santa Cruz, California in 2007. The event was created with the aim of bringing friends together, honouring beer brewers and servers, and uniting beer enthusiasts worldwide.
