With summer now here, Brits are no doubt shelling out for flights to chase the perfect sun-soaked holiday.
But if it’s golden sandy beaches and pristine waters you’re after, jetting off isn’t your only choice. In fact, one hidden paradise awaits just a few hours drive from Manchester.
Llanddwyn Beach – or Newborough Beach – lies at the tip of Anglesey in North Wales. It not only boasts a stunning coastal landscape, but an extensive forest path and even a ‘secret dragon’ among the rocks.
Travel influencer Ryan Holland took to TikTok to share his experience of venturing here. He claimed it was the ‘best beach and sunset spot’ in the UK.
“First walk through the forest, the forest meets the sand,” he told his 19.9k followers. “The water is so clear and great for paddle boarding. It overlooks Snowdonia [and] horses live on a little island with a lighthouse.”
“And these cottages go down to the rocks and look for the red dragon. Then head north for the best sunset, the lighthouse still works.”
According to North Wales Live, Anglesey’s ‘red dragon’ refers to an unusual cluster of red rocks that’s only visible when the tide is low. This was initially spotted by the eagle-eyed photographer, Noel Morgan, who took a snap of the dragon-shaped formation in 2022.
At the time, he said: “I was taking photos of the island’s rock formations. At the time I was struck more by their red colour than their shapes.
“It was only when I got back home that I realised one of them showed what appeared to be a dragon.”
Despite its undeniable beauty, Ryan still advised tourists to travel here with caution, claiming you can actually get stuck on the island if you don’t judge the tides right.
He added: “Be careful of the of the tides or you can get stuck on the island. Please don’t use BBQ’s on the beach or in the forest.
“There are designated BBQ areas but if its a hot day don’t use it. Wild fires are easily spread. And please take your rubbish!
“To see the best sunset spot you need to head to South Stack Lighthouse. Not only will you see the best sunset ever but you can also watch the cruise ships that are leaving Holyhead. I recommend going to Elin’s Tower to watch it for the best view.”
